Do You Fear Your Own Power?

ONE OF THE BIGGEST LIMITATIONS WE ALL FACE, AS WE TRY TO FIND THIS POINT OF POWER, IS FEAR. NO ONE ESCAPES THIS LIMITATION IN SOME FORM OR ANOTHER.

Once, early in my consciousness studies, I was ruminating on the idea of power. I decided I would look for my power in a meditation. Once still and quiet, I looked around and saw a ladder leading up. I climbed for a very long time up beyond the clouds, and came to the edge of a wall. Over that wall, I knew I would find my power. I peered over that wall, and what I saw struck instant fear in my heart. My power, it seemed, went on for as far as the eye could see into infinity. I quickly climbed down that ladder, a bit awestruck.

Awesome power does require an awesome responsibility. Was I ready for that?

Fear is something that I have studied very closely for some time; you could possibly refer to me as a “fearologist.” Fear has attracted my close attention ever since an incident that occurred many years ago. A mentor told me that if I wanted to know what my destiny in this world was, all I needed to do was to sit in meditation and in that space, walk down a road, and meet my future self coming in the other direction. I could ask this future self what my destiny was, and I would get an answer.

So I did this meditation. And when I met my future self, I was told the following: “Your purpose is to lead people through their fear. Fear is the root of all the problems on your planet. Indeed, the opposite of love is not hate, but fear. Hate is simply one form of fear. In fact, the reason we do not experience peace on Earth is solely because of fear.”

When I first heard these words, I really didn’t know how I would ever apply the concept of “leading people through their fear” in my life. But I walked away from that meditation with a firm knowledge that fear is simply an illusion. And because I “knew” that fear was not real, I was less affected by it in everyday situations.

What do I mean by that? I mean that I understood that being afraid wasn’t a valid excuse. This was the single most important idea that helped me move beyond fear.

Exercise: Fear-Busting Rehearsal
When something frightens us, our body is conditioned to respond with a cascade of responses. We refer to this set of responses as “fight or flight.” When visualizing, the physical body does not know the difference between a real or imaginary situation, so it responds as if the situation is real.

We can use this tendency to shift our reaction to something that usually causes fear. This is a way for us to face our fear prior to the actual event:

  • Imagine the event that causes the fear in as much detail as possible.
  • Notice where the emotion of fear arises. Often people notice it in their throat, their gut, their heart, but it can be anywhere.
  • Bring the emotion to neutral. How do you bring an emotion to neutral? Choose from many ways:
  • Push your awareness through the discomfort;
  • Untangle the feeling until it subsides;
  • Notice the direction the feeling moves, and run its movement in the opposite direction; or
  • Focus on your breathing until it subsides.
  • Play with the above until you find what works for you.
  • Bring your attention back to imagining the event, and repeat.
  • Notice how the fear is different the next time you imagine it. Continue until you have no fearful emotion when imagining it!

Maybe this takes you only one time, or ten times, or 100 times. Continue to notice how it is different each time. It has been my experience that as you get used to shifting things in this way, fewer repetitions will be needed.

2015: The Year of Freedom

The energetic theme for 2015 is Freedom.

The first time I felt truly free was when I returned from my first trip to Peru. The land there worked its magic and transported me to a completely different centeredness–a space in consciousness that was far beyond the way I had previously known myself.

It was such a gift, this gift of freedom.

In this new space I was no longer subjected to the stories and ideas of myself, my old ways of understanding, and I no longer felt a need to control my life in ways that seemed “safe” but limiting.  Feeling fully supported by source, I was free to launch into the explorations that expanded my life beyond what even I could imagine at the time.

Clients are telling me they are ready and poised to leap into their life more fully, ready to feel the expansiveness and limitlessness of freedom in their lives in 2015.

What are the things in your life that keep you from feeling truly free?

The energies of 2015 are ready to transform those limitations and move you into a new level of being.  What would it feel like to feel truly free from the things that worry you, that cause uncertainty and fear, that hold you back from leaping into the opportunities of your life?

Connect into these amazing energies of 2015 and feel your limitations drop away.

Your intention is the key.

Passing into spirit for a time, for a timelessness,
to be lifted by wings and serenaded by spheres of angels,
to be en-flamed and renewed,
to be re-examined and en-souled.
Floating on starlight and emerging in godness at the seat of my ever burning desire,
I kneel, bowed in the awesome radiance of my power.
Now soaking in the sweet rays of love unconditional,
now hearing the sweet ring of truth flowing,
now claiming the sweet armour of my brilliance shining.
Now I rest. Here at the foot of my very BEing.

The Art of Creating Miracles

Two angels

Two angels (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

When one of my very first clients shared with me that her shoulder pain of 15 years disappeared after our healing session, I was skeptical.

Then the parent of a child whom I helped reported that he was no longer bothered by allergies. I was confused.

Next, a client who had not been able to eat solid food told me that he was able to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner with his family.

And, after a number of similar reports, I just had to finally face it.

Miracles happen.

I don’t know how to explain how they happen.  That’s why the occurrences are considered miraculous.  But I can explain what I do to get access to the space where miracles can happen.

And that’s a crucial point. I’m not running around making miracles happen for people. Not at all. Instead, I seem to simply create the space for miracles to happen.  And they do on a fairly regular basis.

And sometimes they don’t. Or they don’t seem to. And I can’t explain to you why it happens that way. These things are far beyond my ability to intellectualize them. But it is more interesting how often miracles do happen.

Beyond the words, beyond the understanding, there is Grace.

How can you teach Grace? How can you learn Grace?

Explore the miraculous with me June 16-17, 2012 in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

3 Steps to Becoming Powerful Overnight

A return stroke, cloud-to-ground lightning strike.

A return stroke, cloud-to-ground lightning strike. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I read a recent article (here) that claimed men hate women because men feel powerless. Feelings of powerlessness create anger and men place that anger on something outside of them that they can blame.

Feelings of powerlessness, I thought, are not the purview of men.  Instead, I might suggest that it is a human condition. Everyone feels powerless, and for some, it’s not fleeting, but a daily encounter. People do deal with these feelings in different ways, and blaming others is high on the list. Have you blamed anyone today?

Others deal with these feelings by seeking control and power out in the world. Maybe they achieve powerful positions or they look for ways to control others who they deem “lower” than them. External power may be inversely proportional to how powerless the person feels inside.

Why would I think this? Because this was true of myself! When I was the most afraid of being out of control, of being powerless, that is when I was most desperate to control the world around me.

As I grew older, and into my sense of Self, I no longer felt I needed to control everything in life to feel safe. I stopped needing to be in control. For me, the more connected I was to my own Self, the safer I felt, and the less outward control was needed. This was true even when chaos was happening!  I was able to let go of the need to control life, which was so freeing, requiring much less energy! I can actually feel powerful without controlling anything!

So, how can we cultivate the sense of Self and safety so that we can feel powerful on the inside?

1) Don’t rely on others to keep you safe.  Your safety comes from how centered you are in yourself. Period.

2) If you’re feeling powerless, move first to connect with your center, the core of who you are. Some people refer to this as connecting with source, or their higher selves. Others say they are connecting with their heart. However you think of it, the result will be centering and grounding. The emotion is simply neutral.

3) From this neutral state of connection, you are your most powerful because you can clearly notice your alternative choice for reaction or movement in relation to any issue that is distressing you.

Notice how easy it is from this powerful place of connection to you limitless self to let go of blame, to see the larger picture, to realize that others around you are acting out of fear rather than a desire to make you feel powerless!

Practice and amplify this state as often as you can!

And teach it to your children, both the boys and the girls.

Lupercalia and Passion

Canis lupus Deutsch: Wolf English: Gray wolf. ...

Image via Wikipedia

Lupercalia was the original pagan festival that Valentine’s Day replaced –a festival of the she-wolf. The festival celebrated spring and fertility. Young men would strike women with goat-skin strips  to bring fertility and easy birth.

While Valentine’s Day is today a much gentler holiday, with kisses instead of blows, the commercialization and sentimentalization of love that surrounds much of our experiences of this holiday comes up just a little short of what we could be experiencing.

What we can retain from the earlier rites is the passion! Yes, passion! And not just lustful passion.

A celebration of fertility is a celebration of life, specifically the large powerful force of procreation.  A wolfish lust for living, the desire for propagation, is the life force itself being creative.

Individually, we may want children or not, but the life force within us desires creation–whether it creates by flesh or by idea or by changing reality itself, creation is a key energy of the spring festival of Lupercalia.

Our life force is compelled into creation, but we are also driven–when we listen closely to our deepest longing–to live fully, wildly, and freely!  Lupercalia is this celebration of wild freedom.

While modern Valentine’s Day can be a sweet way to connect with those we love, I plan to connect more deeply into the full and wild passion of life!

Connect deeply with Passion!  Join us on for a special activation–Passion Invigoration–February 13th at 6pm Pacific Time.  Read more or register here.

Post 2012–The Aftermath

Mayan Temple Falls (Film)

Image by StoneHorse Studios via Flickr

Some of us have been preparing for 2012 for decades. Others of us for the last few years. We have wondered about our spiritual state, striving to make ourselves better people, worthy of transformation.

And now, here we are.

2012 in all its glory! Breathe! You made it!

There is rumor that the big cataclysmic shift won’t occur until December of 2012. But you do have a choice in the matter. You can diligently, madly, frantically, or even carefully prepare yourself further for the BIG SHIFT.

Or you can simply begin living life now. In authenticity. In compassion. In love. In wonderment. In joy. In curious playfulness.

You can include the best traditions from the past that have sustained and nurtured you. You can create new traditions that cement community and family. You can make each day a sacred celebration.

Your plans and resolutions need not be about success and materialism. They can be simple. I resolve to nurture relationships. I resolve one moment each morning to focus only on joy. I resolve to whisper gratitude to the wind each time I step out the door. Regardless. Regardless of the fight the night before. Regardless of the bills that are past due. Regardless of physical discomfort.

Resolve that the world no longer dictate your BE-ing. Instead simply BE. In authenticity. In compassion. In love. In wonderment. In joy. In curious playfulness.
